La complication GMTThe GMT Complication
La complication dite GMT permet d'afficher l'heure d'un deuxième fuseau horaire. Une quatrième aiguille, placée dans le cadran principal ou dans un sous-cadran, fonctionne comme celle d'une montre 24 heures, en effectuant un tour complet en vingt-quatre heures. Elle peut être indépendante de l'affichage heures-minutes.
La complication GMT « voyageur » permet de régler l'aiguille des heures sans bouger l'aiguille des 24 heures ni celle des minutes, là aussi par incréments d'une heure. Son nom vient de sa capacité à adapter rapidement l'aiguille des heures à l'heure locale du pays visité, sans avoir à régler les minutes, et en gardant une heure de référence sur l'aiguille des 24 heures (par exemple l'heure de chez soi, ou l'heure UTC pour un pilote). Cette complication est généralement plus haut de gamme : contrairement au GMT « de bureau », elle est plus difficile à ajouter à un mouvement existant.
The complication known as GMT allows the display of the time in a second time zone. A fourth hand, placed on the main dial or in a sub-dial, functions like that of a 24-hour watch, completing a full revolution in twenty-four hours. It can be independent of the hours-and-minutes display.
The « traveller » GMT complication allows the hour hand to be set without moving the 24-hour hand or the minute hand, again in increments of one hour. Its name comes from its ability to rapidly adapt the hour hand to the local time of the country visited, without having to reset the minutes, while keeping a reference time on the 24-hour hand (for instance the time at home, or UTC time for a pilot). This complication is generally more upmarket: unlike the « desk » GMT, it is more difficult to add to an existing movement.
